The Woodcrafter, Steve

I've been a woodworker of one form or another for over 40 years. A childhood helping my dad with DIY and building scenery for amateur dramatics led to a career making stage and exhibition scenery: revolving stages, furniture, complete room settings for plays, opera and ballet. I always enjoyed the challenge of taking a design idea and turning into reality. 

Lifelong curiosity and a love of learning new techniques informs how I make a repair. The materials I use are all locally sourced or salvaged from pieces beyond repair. 

The types of furniture that most interest me are hand made pieces, such as windsor style bow back kitchen chairs. I'm fascinated by the idea of vernacular in terms of furniture and architecture, whereby the particular local materials available, inform both the style and techniques used to create pieces. 

I currently have a number of chairs in the repair queue in various states of collapse, I’m looking forward to making the new components required and bringing them back into use.
